ICA Hosts Kurdish Cinema Day in Memory of Yılmaz Güney in Cooperation with Lorin Cultural Association and Church of Life

Lunen, Germany — September 13, 2025 On the occasion of the 41st anniversary of the passing of the father of Kurdish cinema, director Yılmaz Güney, the International Cultural Academy, represented by Dr. Media Sheikha, Director of the Office of Literature and Critical Studies and representative of the European Center for Development and Geostrategic Studies (ECDA) in Germany, in cooperation with the Lorin Cultural Association and the Church of Life, organized a cinematic day titled “Cinematic Glimpses.”

The event brought together filmmakers, artists, specialists, and lovers of Kurdish cinema. The day opened with welcoming remarks by Dr. Mamdouh Al-Ali, followed by a keynote message on behalf of the Academy delivered by poet Nasr Mohammed, who emphasized the role of cinema as a cultural act of resistance, a bridge between past and future, and a mirror of Kurdish identity.

Presentations included:

• Writer and translator Berty Zakher, who explored the relationship between religion and art throughout history, drawing references from the Old and New Testaments and citing Kurdish films such as Bêkes and Dema Hespên Serxweş.

• Dr. Ibrahim Mahmoud, who gave a historical overview of global cinema from the Lumière brothers’ first film in 1895 to the rise of Kurdish cinema, highlighting Yılmaz Güney’s role in reviving it with over 20 influential films, including the Palme d’Or–winning Yol (The Road). He also recalled the pioneering Kurdish films Giya(1925), Namus (1927), and Zare, directed in Russia.

• Director and producer Nasreen Abdeen, who reflected on the reception of Kurdish cinema within the community and screened her film Dojeha Sar.

• Director Akram Siti, who discussed the challenges Kurdish filmmakers face and screened his films Trockene Schatten, Terrorism, and The Chair.

• Director and actor Amir Taha, who presented his films Dwana Azadi and Jwantarin Mirdin.

The program also featured a cultural performance by Kurdish folklore singer Imad Kaklo.

The day culminated in a panel discussion titled “Kurdish Cinema: Narrating Identity Between Reality and History,” moderated by Dr. Media Sheikha. The panel featured:

• Dr. Ibrahim Mahmoud, expert in Kurdish journalism and documentary cinema

• Director and producer Nasreen Abdeen

• Director Akram Siti

• Director and actor Amir Taha

The discussions underlined the dual role of Kurdish cinema as both art and cultural testimony—capturing suffering, exile, resilience, and hope while documenting Kurdish identity in history and contemporary struggles.

The International Cultural Academy concluded the day with words of thanks and appreciation to all participants, affirming its commitment to supporting Kurdish cinema as a living, vital, and global voice of culture and identity.

الأكاديمية الثقافية الدولية تُحيي يوم السينما الكردية بذكرى مرور 41 عاماً على رحيل يلماز غوني بالتعاون مع جمعية لورين الثقافية وكنيسة الحياة

لونن – ألمانيا | 13 أيلول 2025بمناسبة مرور 41 عاماً على رحيل الأب الروحي للسينما الكردية المخرج يلماز غوني، نظّمت الأكاديمية الثقافية الدولية، متمثلة بالدكتورة ميديا شيخه، رئيسة مكتب الأكاديمية للآداب والدراسات النقدية وممثلة المركز الأوروبي للتنمية والدراسات الجيوستراتيجية (ECDA) في ألمانيا، وبالتعاون مع جمعية لورين الثقافية وكنيسة الحياة، يوماً سينمائياً بعنوان «ومضات سينمائية».

شهدت الفعالية حضور عدد من المخرجين والفنانين والمختصين وجمهور واسع من محبي السينما الكردية. استهل الدكتور ممدوح العلي بكلمة ترحيبية، أعقبها كلمة باسم الأكاديمية ألقاها الشاعر نصر محمد، مؤكداً أن السينما الكردية ليست مجرد فن بل فعل مقاوم وثقافي يوثق الهوية ويجسر بين الماضي والحاضر وحلم الحرية.

تضمن البرنامج:

• مداخلة للكاتب والمترجم بيرتي زاخر حول العلاقة بين الدين والفن عبر العصور، مستشهداً بأفلام كردية مثل Bêkes وDema Hespên Serxweş.

• عرض تاريخي للدكتور إبراهيم محمود عن تطور السينما العالمية والكردية، بدءاً من فيلم الأخوين لوميير عام 1895، مروراً بأفلام Giya(1925)، Namus (1927)، والفيلم الكردي زارە، وصولاً إلى أعمال يلماز غوني الذي أعاد للسينما الكردية مكانتها من خلال أكثر من 20 فيلماً، أبرزها Yol (الطريق) الحائز على السعفة الذهبية في مهرجان كان.

• مداخلة للمخرجة والمنتجة نسرين عابدين حول تفاعل المجتمع الكردي مع السينما وعرض فيلمها Dojeha Sar.

• كلمة للمخرج أكرم سيتي حول صعوبات الإنتاج السينمائي الكردي وعرض أفلامه Trockene Schatten، Terorizm، والكرسي.

• مشاركة المخرج والممثل أمير طه بعرض فيلمين من إنتاجه دوانه ئازادی وجوانترين مردن.

وتخلل الفعالية وصلة غنائية من الفلكلور الكردي الأصيل بصوت الفنان عماد كاكلو.

واختتم اليوم السينمائي بندوة حوارية بعنوان «السينما الكردية سرد الهوية بين الواقع والتاريخ» بإدارة الدكتورة ميديا شيخه، وبمشاركة:

• الدكتور إبراهيم محمود، مختص في الصحافة الكردية والسينما الوثائقية

• المخرجة والمنتجة نسرين عابدين

• المخرج السينمائي أكرم سيتي

• المخرج والممثل أمير طه

خلصت النقاشات إلى أن السينما الكردية كانت ولا تزال مرآة للهوية، وذاكرة للنضال، وجسراً للتواصل مع العالم، رغم كل التحديات السياسية واللغوية.

وفي الختام، قدّمت الأكاديمية الثقافية الدولية شكرها وتقديرها لجميع الحاضرين والمشاركين، مؤكدة التزامها الدائم بدعم السينما الكردية كصوت حيّ نابض للثقافة والهوية.
